Join the Family at Alaska's One-of-a-Kind, Luxury, Safari Lodge

Ultima Thule, defined as ‘the land remote beyond reckoning,’ was built from the understanding that indulging creature comforts and overwhelming the senses are ideal ingredients for once-in-a-lifetime experiences. This unique and timeless Lodge has adopted a style of “no roughing it” luxury that effortlessly enhances the already indescribable setting.

Ultima Thule is first and foremost a family owned and operated company with classic  values of handwork and reward. The lodge is an outpost of civilization in the heart of true wilderness and as such relies on the skills and dedication of each person to maintain the needs of the community.

--- Assistant/ Apprentice Cook

We take food seriously at Ultima Thule and lodge life revolves around the kitchen. We have expansive vegetable gardens and a huge greenhouse that provides the majority of the fresh vegetables that we use on a daily basis. We serve wild game and fresh caught salmon, preserve our own jams, jellies and syrups, bake fresh bread and make many delicacies from scratch. Our approach to cooking is that it should create unique, tasteful and satiating results that are an enhancing element to the overall experience at Ultima Thule.

We look for people with a basic knowledge and skill set when it comes to cooking. Someone who has a deep passion for creating healthy, tasty and inspiring meals and who loves making others happy with food.  Formal training not necessary as much as a desire to learn, assist and fit in with current ways of operating. New ideas are always encouraged as long as guidelines and set directives are followed. Having the ability to make things from scratch and to taste as well as being able to follow a recipe is a must. As is being able to work under and take directions from the lodge owner and lead chef.

We don’t have a set menu, we create new meals each day and often work off the cuff creating unique and wonderful food for our guests and crew utilizing fresh, homegrown and handmade ingredients.

Kitchen staff is in charge of three meals a day for guests as well as all lodge crew. Gourmet, packed lunches are sent out with guests and guides. Presentation, execution and attention to detail are paramount in all aspects of cooking and serving.

We have a small crew in the kitchen and everyone shares responsibilities such as cleaning up, mopping floors and washing dishes.

Our ideal candidate will be someone who first demonstrates a strong desire to learn and take direction and upon instruction is then willing to work hard and step into standalone rolls such as managing the kitchen, creating menus and meals for crew, keeping up with food stock and placing orders. We need a team player and well-motivated individual.

Please don’t respond unless you can poach, fry, boil, sunny and scramble an egg to perfection.

Basic knowledge of baking is a plus.

Seasonal work from April – September. Full term commitment necessary. Entry level position. Room and board included. Must be able to get yourself to Anchorage, Alaska and get home from there at the end of the season.

--- Carpenter/ Handyman

We build and maintain everything in house at Ultima Thule. This is a self-sustaining, remote property where everything and everyone has to be flown in.

We’re looking for someone with carpentry and superior “fix-it” skills to join our team. We have ongoing projects big and small from luxury cabin remodeling to basic structure completion.

This person should have the skill set to complete house hold remodel projects as well as new construction and upkeep projects. Must be able to oversee and instruct additional helpers on basic projects. Manage building related details in a setting where you can’t just run to Homedepot.

Craftsman furniture building skills a plus.

To apply for any these positions please send an email telling us how perfect you are for a specific post.

**Please, no phone calls. We will respond for follow up.

Additional Information

LIVING at Ultima Thule:
For lodge based jobs meals and lodging are provided.
Please note: we eat hearty/healthy meals with lots of fresh veggies and wild harvested fish and game – due to our remote location and demands on the kitchen staff we are not always able to accommodate special dietary needs from crew members. Dorm style housing is provided and crew members may be asked to share a room with a person of the same gender. A crew sauna/bath house is also provided. Remember this is remote Alaska and there is no indoor plumbing in the crew house. Crew members enjoy getting out for hikes and camping adventures on down days. However, the lodge guests are always the paramount focus and priority. Work days are long and enthusiasm is ALWAYS expected. It’s imperative that individuals are able to work and live together in a professional manor.

Each applicant is asked to mindfully consider if the lifestyle and challenges are right for them before pursuing a position!

If you think this might be the experience for you, we look forward to hearing from you soon! Please reply with a cover letter telling us more about yourself. info@ultimathulelodge.com
