Fishing

back << Exploration / Flight Seeing >>

Fishing in Alaska is a one of a kind adventure. Here in the Wrangell//St. Elias National Park it is the adventure of a lifetime. All five species of Salmon run through our front yard, as well as innumerable other rivers that surround us. The huge Kings lead the way in late May and June and continue on through summer. Reds come next, in great migrations, they dwindle out by the end of summer. Pinks and Chums follow and then the most prized of all-
the Silvers begin their run to home by early fall.

We find these fish in all kinds of places. We go to the rivers as they empty in the Gulf of Alaska, we fish the tributaries of the big rivers, we find the smallest creeks and the lakes. We like to go where no one else does. We like to find creeks and lakes that have never seen hooks and lines.
We don't like anyone sharing our spots so we find the best in the most out of the way places...

Lake Trout and Arctic Char can be had year around.

Dolly Varden can be huge and quite a fighter, during the salmon runs they get fat and sassy but, they can be found year around.

Fish and Game is studying our Steelhead. They spawn in the spring in one place, a beautiful creek heavily frequented by bears!.

We used to catch rainbows of epic size, 36 inches long.... Then, someone found our spot and wiped it out in one summer. We'd been catching those huge beautiful fish for 20 years. Now we are on the hunt for other huge rainbow. We find plenty, most more than a foot, some 6 pounders. Maybe you can be the one to find the whoppers again!

We have gear for beginners, if you are an accomplished fisherman you will want to bring your own gear. We do have flies tied at the lodge and always someone who is a good fly fisherman is here to lend a hand to anyone. If you are the only person in your group who wants to fish, that is fine, we'll take you to your paradise and them to their adventures.
